United States President Donald Trump and Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky’s meeting on Friday turned out to be a disaster. The two leaders entered into a fiery exchange of words, during which Donald Trump warned Zelensky not to tell America what it is doing.
"You’re gambling with millions of people … You’re gambling with World War Three,” Donald Trump told Volodymyr Zelenskyy at one point.
US President Donald Trump was aso joined by US Vice President JD Vance in the meeting where Vance called Zelensky's behaviour “as disrespectful” in front of the media.
During the heated conversation, when Volodymyr Zelensky warned the US would “feel it in the future” if it did not continue to support Ukraine. He was abruptly stopped by Trump who said, “Don’t tell us what we’re going to feel. We’re trying to solve a problem”.
JD Vance's remark on diplomacy added fuel to the fire when Zelensky retaliated with anger and said that that Vladimir Putin can never be trusted for his words.
Vance stressed the need for diplomacy to end biggest conflict in Europe since World War Two.
"What kind of diplomacy are you talking about, JD?" Zelensky asked after recounting failed diplomatic efforts with Russia.
"I’m talking about the kind of diplomacy that's going to end the destruction of your country," Vance shot back.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his aides were immediately asked to leave White House, even when they expressed their will to continue the bilateral talks, reported Reuters citing officials.
Even as attendants were preparing to serve lunch to the delegations, Zelensky and other Ukrainian officials were instruct to depart.
Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky failed to conclude Ukraine's rare earth minerals deal as fiery exchange of words between them left no hope of further negotiations.
The rare earth mineral deal would give United States access to Ukraine's rich mineral reserves and was seen by Zelensky as a way to mend relations with Trump for a new round of aid.
