Purple Cap 2025: Gujarat Titans pacer Prasidh Krishna extended his gap with others with two more wickets against KKR in the IPL 2025 Purple Cap list. The speedster now has 16 wickets from eight games, followed by Delhi Capitals’ Kuldeep Yadav (12) and Chennai Super Kings’ Noor Ahmad (12). Krishna’s teammate Sai Kishore also took a wicket against KKR to enter the top five at the fourth position.
A Purple Cap is presented to mark the most wicket-takers in an Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The Purple Cap winner keeps on changing during the course of the tournament as and when which cricketer is topping the charts at the particular point of time.
Former Pakistan pacer Sohail Tanvir, who played for Rajasthan Royals, was the first recipient of the Purple Cap in the inaugural season in 2008 for his 22 wickets in 11 games.
West Indies Dwayne Bravo and Bhuvneshwar Kumar hold the record for winning the Purple Cap twice in history. Overall, there have been 13 different Purple Cap winners in 17 seasons so far.
It is also to be noted that that a 30-wicket mark was breached thrice in the history of IPL with Dwayne Bravo (2013), Harshal Patel (2021) and Kagiso Rabada (2020).
