Trending in 2024: Just like every year, Google has revealed the top 10 trending searches on the search giant. Elections and sports dominated the trending searches on Google in 2024, with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), the Indian Premier League (IPL), Congress, Olympics 2024 and Election 2024 making the top 10 searches in India.

Sports and Politics dominate Google Search in India:

While IPL, T20 World Cup and Olympics 2024 are no-brainers as trending searches for 2024. Interestingly, other domestic sports tournaments such as Pro Kabaddi League and Indian Super League, Women's Premier League and Duleep Trophy also found traction among the Indian masses. Other sporting events searched for in India include Copa America, the UEFA European Football Championship and the Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

With the Indian general elections and multiple state elections held this year, terms like Election 2024, Bhartiya Janta Party, and Indian National Congress dominated search rankings. Even among the top-searched individuals of 2024, politicians such as Vinesh Phogat, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar, Union Minister Chirag Paswan, and Andhra Pradesh Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan led the way.

New ways of searching on Google:

Google revealed that people used new ways to search the web this year by leveraging tools like Google Lens and Circle to Search. These methods were primarily used for translation, shopping, and identifying objects. The Mountain View, California-based company noted that users of its new multimodal technology often added the phrase "how to use" to their visual searches to gain a deeper understanding of what they were looking for.

Notably, Google's AI backed Circle to Search feature first debuted alongside the Samsung Galaxy S24 and Pixel 8 series and is now widely available on even mid-range phones from most companies. Meanwhile, Google Lens also received many major upgrades this year.
