Former cricketer Vinod Kambli, who is currently admitted to Akruti Hospital in Thane due to health concerns, is likely to be discharged in 2-3 days. However, according to doctors, Kambli's brain condition is not stable, and they are working on a rehabilitation process.
"We found that he had a urine infection, and sodium and potassium deficiency which were causing muscle cramps. A brain scan revealed that he had old clots because he had suffered a stroke recently. We admitted him to the ICU because he also had low BP... His vitals are stable, but his treatment and physiotherapy are ongoing. We are planning to discharge him in 2-3 days," Dr Dwivedi told ANI.
"His brain's condition is not stable... There are degenerative changes in his brain. So, we are focussing more on rehabilitation," the doctor added.
“We admitted him on Saturday evening. He was experiencing muscle cramps and dizziness at home... He had a high-grade fever when we brought him to the hospital and difficulty walking due to muscle cramps,” Dr Dwivedi said.
Earlier, Kambli's friend Marcus Couto met him and stated that the former cricketer was fine.
"Kambli is doing fine now. He is suffering from a urinary infection and was admitted to the hospital on Saturday. I met him at the hospital today," Couto told the Times of India.
"I told them to treat him at the hospital for a month since he has many health issues. Since someone is ready to spend money on his treatment, why not?" Couto said.
"We always had a cricketing image of sir (Vinod Kambli) in our mind. So, it inspired us that sir needs us and so, the entire team decide to do something for sir. He keeps telling us about his good memories," a doctor at the Akruti Hospital told PTI.
While speaking about his health, Kambli said,"It is because the doctor here that I am alive... All I would say is that I will do whatever sir (referring to the doctor) asks me to. People will see the inspiration that I'll give them."
Kambli has played 17 Tests and 104 ODI matches for India from 1993 to 2000.
Kambli appeared in an event in Mumbai earlier this month to honour his childhood coach, Ramakant Achrekar. He was joined by Sachin Tendulkar to unveil a memorial at Shivaji Park.
