Yuzvendra Chahal, Dhanashree Verma’s ₹60 crore divorce settlement? Speculations run wild on social media

As cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal gets legally divorced from choreographer wife Dhanashree Verma, social media is abuzz with rumours of hefty alimony claims as a settlement.

According to social media speculations, Yuzvendra Chahal fans have claimed that the cricketer will have to pay Dhanashree Verma a whopping ₹60 crore in alimony for the divorce.

But are these fan speculations true?

The divorce of Yuzvendra Chahal with Dhanashree Verma was finalised on Thursday, February 20. 

According to an ABP report, Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma had been living separately for the past 18 months and cited “compatibility issues” as the primary cause of their separation.

An ETimes report has substantiated social media speculations that Yuzvendra Chahal will have to pay Dhanashree Verma ₹60 crore in alimony.  While several other media reports said the speculations are baseless and untrue. 

Dhanashree's family reacts to alimony speculation

Dhanashree's family has reacted to the ongoing speculation about the ₹60-crore alimony.

“We are deeply outraged by the baseless claims being circulated about the alimony figure. Let me be absolutely clear—no such amount has ever been asked, demanded, or even offered,” one of her family members told LiveMint.

“There is no truth to these rumours whatsoever. It is deeply irresponsible to publish such unverified information, dragging not just the parties but also their families into unnecessary speculation,” the member continued.

“Reckless reporting like this only causes harm, and we urge the media to exercise restraint and fact-check before spreading misinformation and also be respectful towards everyone’s privacy,” they added.

Advocate Aditi Mohoni, representing Dhanashree, has condemned the media speculation.

“I have no comments to make on the proceedings; the matter is currently under subjudice. The media should fact-check before reporting, as a lot of misleading information is being circulated,” Advocate Aditi Mohoni said.

Earlier in January, Yuzvendra Chahal had broken his silence in an Instagram story and said that he noticed certain social media posts speculating on matters that may or may not be true.

Stating that he understands the curiosity surrounding recent events, particularly about my personal life, Chahal added, "As a son, a brother and a friend, I humbly request everyone not to indulge in these speculations, as they have caused immense pain to me and my family.”

What's behind Yuzvendra Chahal and Dhanashree Verma's divorce rumours?

Rumours about Dhanashree Verma and Yuzvendra Chahal's divorce began after the couple had unfollowed each other on Instagram.

Not only that, the Indian cricketer has also deleted all his pictures with Dhanashree. However, Dhanashree, who too has unfollowed Yuzvendra on Instagram, hasn't deleted any pictures with him.

Some media reports have also surfaced claiming that a divorce between the couple is inevitable and it's only a matter of time before it becomes official.

Dhanashree Verma and Yuzvendra Chahal tied the knot in December 2020 in an intimate ceremony in Gurugram. The two met during the pandemic when Chahal approached her for lessons.
