Rohit Sharma presented Mohammed Siraj a special T20 World Cup ring ahead of Mumbai Indians' Indian Premier League (IPL) clash against Gujarat Titans on Monday. Both Siraj and Rohit will face each other on Tuesday in a much-important clash at the Wankhede Stadium.
The special ring given to all the Indian players in the 15-man squad for the T20 World Cup last year. India had defeated South Africa in the final in Barbados. The ring features name and jersey number of respective players with an Ashok chakra embedded on top.
Following the victory, the whole Indian team paraded in Mumbai in an open bus while on their way to the Wankhede Stadium where BCCI hosted the players in a glittering ceremony.
During the BCCI Naman Awards earlier this year, the players of the T20 World Cup 2024-winning squad were presented with the customised rings. Siraj had missed the award ceremony due to personal reasons.
“This is for Mohammad Siraj,” Rohit said in the video posted by BCCI. “We missed you at the function. You played a vital role in our T20 campaign. So I am proudly presenting him a very very special ring which was made for all of us. Unfortunately Siraj wasn't there so I would like to present this to Mr. Siraj,” he added.
The India pacer flexed the medal in the end by saying, “Champion.” Notably, Siraj played three games for India in the T20 World Cup 2024, taking just one wicket. Post that, Siraj, who plays for Hyderabad in domestic cricket wasn't also picked for ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
