India captain Rohit Sharma has confirmed that he will be fit for the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne starting from December 26. The veteran batsman had suffered a leg injury during a nets session on Sunday and was later seen in considerable pain, which required the attention of the team physio.
The Indian skipper spoke about his injury at the press conference ahead of the Melbourne Test and said, “My knee is fine.”
Notably, the Indian captain missed the first Test to spend time with his newborn baby. Since then, the 37-year-old has struggled to find his feet with scores of 10, 3 and 6 in the three innings he has played.
Rohit was also replaced at the top of the order by KL Rahul, instead returning to bat at number 6. But with the Indian batting failing to click in the last two matches, questions have been raised about whether the batting order should be reshuffled once again.
Asked about changes in the Indian batting order, Rohit said, "Let's not worry about that. I think 'who bats where?' is something that we need to figure out within ourselves. It's not a thing I should be discussing in every press conference. Whatever it takes for our team to look good or gives us the best chance to succeed, we'll try and do that."
Meanwhile, another experienced player on the team, Virat Kohli, has also failed to live up to his reputation after scoring a century in the first Test. He managed only seven and 11 in the second Test in Adelaide and added another seven runs in the Gabba Test. Kohli has once again struggled with the line outside off stump and has been caught around the fifth stump line several times in the series.
Rohit, however, played down concerns about Virat's predictable problems around off stump, saying, “Kohli's off stump... you only say modern-day great. Modern-day greats figure out their own path.”
