Jasprit Bumrah set to play in Champions Trophy 2025 as premier India pacer to feature in ‘big matches’: Report

In a big boost for the Indian team ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, pacer Jasprit Bumrah is all set to play in the mega event starting in 10 day's time. The 30-year-old suffered a back injury while playing in fifth Test against Australia last month and was advised a rest of five weeks before a second scan is conducted on him.

It is understood that Jasprit Bumrah underwent his second round of scans in the first week of February at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru and is more of less cleared of playing.

According to a CricBlogger report, Jasprit Bumrah will be closely monitored before the Champions Trophy. “Bumrah will be closely monitored and he should be ready for big games in the Champions Trophy,” a BCCI official told the website.

“You can’t overuse a champion bowler like Bumrah. He will be available for big matches and there is nothing much to worry,” the BCCI official added on the world no.1 Test bowler.

In an ICC tournament, no match is small even if its again the lower-ranked teams. The 'big matches' is obviously referred to India's clash against Pakistan which is set to be played in Dubai on February 23.

No clarity on Bumrah in 3rd ODI vs ENG

While announcing the India squad for the ODI series against England, chief selector Ajit Agarkar had said that Jasprit Bumrah is out of the first two matches. However, there is no clarity on his participation in the third ODI in Ahmedabad on February 12.

The Men in Blue currently lead the three-match ODI series against England 1-0. India start their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign against Bangladesh (February 20) before facing arch-rivals three days later. Post that India get a long break before facing New Zealand on March 2 in the group stages.
