An angry Virat Kohli was on display as the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) star vented his frustration out on captain Rajat Patidar during their chance against Punjab Kings on Sunday at the new PCA stadium in Mullanpur.
The incident took place on the fourth balls of the 16th over bowled by Arshdeep Singh. Chasing Punjab Kings' 157/6, RCB were 125/2 at that time. Nudging a Arshdeep delivery towards the leg side, Kohli wanted for a double. Patidar, however, after completing the first run, wasn't keep for the second but Kohli had already ran the next.
Patidar was stranded at the middle of the pitch. However, a wayward throw from Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer gave Patidar a life at the bowler's end. Patidar was caught at the deep in the next over.
Meanwhile, Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal smashed half-centuries as RCB crushed Punjab Kings by seven wickets to join the top four with 10 points. Chasing 158, Kohli (73 not out off 54 balls) and Padikkal (61 off 35 balls) shared a 103-run partnership, which formed the backbone of the massive win achieved with seven balls to spare.
Earlier, spinners Krunal Pandya (2/25) and Suyash Sharma (2/26) shared four wickets between them as Punjab Kings struggled to build momentum with RCB striking at regular intervals. Prabhsimran Singh top-scored for the hosts with a 17-ball 33 after being invited to bat.
During the win, Virat also overtook former Sunrisers Hyderabad captain David Warner for most fifty-plus scores in the history of IPL. Virat now has 67 fifties in IPL while Warner has 66. For the unknown. Warner led SRH to IPL title in 2016.,
