"Pretty special to do this after that ton at the Adelaide Oval. It's all about being as positive as I can, I thought that I had to spend some time in the middle, credit to the top-3 guys for having stuck out against the new ball, it made my task easier and I could play my shots, I felt pretty positive against the new ball, but it was fun to be aggressive. I like to play long innings, I would want to bat for a long time. I have played enough against India, I've had a blueprint. Very pleased for Smudge, he has had a lot against him and it's nice to see him get back to his best form."
That's it. It's stumps on Day 2 as Australia reach 405/7. Jasprit Bumrah took a five-wicket haul while Travis Head and Steve Smith hit respective hundreds for Australia.
Finally Mohammed Siraj gets a wicket as Pat Cummins edged behind to Rishabh Pant for 20. Australia go past 400. AUS 405/7
India failed to capture on the momentum as Pat Cummins and Alex Carey forge a 50-plus stand. AUS 378/6
Former BCCI secretary and current ICC Chairman Jay Shah is in the house at the Gabba.
India are back in the game with Jasprit Bumrah getting two more wickets in the same over. Alex Carey and Travis Head become Bumrah's 4th and 5th scalps. Head goes for 152. AUS 328/6
There are reports that India are sending three reserve bowlers - Mukesh Kumar, Yash Dayal and Navdeep Saini - back in India from Australia. The trio will play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
OUTTTTTTTTT!!!!! India finally have the breakthrough but not after Australia did the damage. Steve Smith edged a Jasprit Bumrah delivery to Rohit Sharma. A lapse of concentration from Smith. He departs for 101. AUS 318/4
Steve Smith gets to his hundred too with a single off Akash Deep. Smith registers his 33rd Test ton. AUS 313/3
India have taken the second new ball immediately it was available. Jasprit Bumrah returns into attack. 300 comes up for Australia. AUS 302/3
Play resumes after Tea break. Ravindra Jadeja starts the proceedings. Interestingly, none of the spinners in either teams have had success in this series. Wonder, why India didn't play another fast bowler?
Hundred for Travis Head for the second consecutive time in this series. The southpaw had scored one in Adelaide too. He pushes Jasprit Bumrah for a couple towards long-on boundary for his three figures . AUS 231/3
The pitch looks like a batting paradise for the batters as there seems to be no reverse swing on offer. Fifty comes up for Steve Smith too. AUS 191/3
Fifty for Travis head - his 18th in Tests. Steve Smith is inching towards his fifty too. AUS 160/3
Ravindra Jadeja come to bowl for the first time in this tour of Australia. One thing that is missing in this Indians team is the aggression that was on display in Perth. Six runs come from Jadeja's first over. AUS 127/3
Play starts after lunch. Although Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep are bowling tight lengths, they aren't able to trouble the Australian batters as Steve Smith and Travis Head take their time in the middle. AUS 115/3
Here is some update on Mohammed Shami. The veteran pacer was included in Bengal squad for Vijay Hazare Trophy and is unlikely to play in Australia. According to a journalist, the Indian think tank feels that although Shami is playing regular matches in domestic cricket, coming to Australia and bowling 20 overs in these conditions is quite a task.
Unlike in the Perth, the Indian bowling looks toothless with no movement with the ball. Meanwhile, lunch has been taken as Australia reach 104/3 in 43 overs. Travis Head is batting on 20 with Steven Smith on unbeaten 25.
Looks like Mohammad Siraj has pulled his hamstring as he clutches his knee. The physio comes running and Siraj accompanies him out of the ground after just two balls in the 37th over. Akash Deep to finish the incomplete over. AUS 85/3
OUTTTTT!!!! The length ball wide of the off-stump trick works wonders for India as Marnus Labuschagne goes for a drive and edges to Virat Kohli at slips. Nitish Reddy gets the breakthrough. AUS 75/3
Unable to get any more wickets, Mohammed Siraj comes up with the famous bail change. He walks straight up to Marnus Labuschagne and flips the balls at the striker's ends. As soon as Siraj goes back to his run-up, the Australian flips them back. Siraj nearly gets a wicket two balls later but the ball went just milimetres over the bails. AUS 72/3
Steven Smith and Marnus Labuschagne looks settled in the middle, having played more than 10 overs together. The ball seems to come on to the bat nicely here as the Indian bowlers look for a wicket. AUS 67/2
Jasprit Bumrah was successful on Day 2 morning as he got rid of openers Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney within a space two overs. This is before play started on time with clear blue skies. However there is a rain forecast later on the day. AUS 53/2
A draw in Brisbane Test will not rule India out of the race for WTC final. Then they will have to win the final two games in Melbourne and Sydney to qualify for the final with a PCT of 60.53. If India win the final two games and Australia also win 2-0 against Sri Lanka, Rohit Sharma's men will ease through owing to their high PCT.
With predictions of rain in the remaining four days also, a draw could possibly dent both India and Australia in their race to WTC final. In case the match ends in a draw, both teams will be awarded 4 points each. In that case, India's PCT will come down from 57.29 to 55.88. On the Australia's new PCT will be 58.89. The host's current PCT is 60.71.
Here comes the update we have been waiting for. Play on Day 1 called off due to rain. The match resumes on 5:20 AM IST on the remaining days with minimum 98 overs to be bowled.
As rain eases a bit, Gautam Gambhir was seen near the tunnel to observe the umpires' discussion. The Indian players are on their whites while Rohit Sharma sneaked peaked through the glass door. Meanwhile, the umbrellas are once again in action.
The intensity of rain has minimised but its is still raining. Some India support staff members emerge on the boundary line. Not sure what they are talking about. The covers are still on.
The weather forecast of the remaining days doesn't look good. 46%, 67%, 68% and 55% chances of rains are expected on the second, third, fourth and fifth days respectively in Brisbane, according to AccuWeather.com.
10 minutes to go befire Tea and nothing looks bright at The Gabba at the moment. It's pretty fair to say that the second session has been washed out. Not likely to to get any more cricket today.
Meanwhile, the floodlights are on at the Gabba. The drainage system at the Gabba is good but it is useless unless the rain stops pouring.
The Gabba looked like a sea on Saturday.
No news yet as when the game will resume today. Meanwhile, Sunil Gavaskar stood by Mohammed Siraj after the latter was booed on Saturday at the Gabba. "Siraj is getting the stick from all the "saints" in Australian cricket who, of course, were known for their impeccable behaviour on the field. It may have incensed Australian fans that Siraj's fiery send-off was directed at Head, who scored a magnificent century and was also the local boy. But the same people will cheer if an Aussie quick gives a similar send-off to an English batter during next summer's Ashes. There were some suggestions in the media that the Australians should get back to being the mongrels they once were. So, do mongrels simply purr, or do they bark, too," Sunil Gavaskar told Sydney Morning Herald.
The wait game continues at The Gabba. For the readers, let me tell you that the overs lost today can be adjusted over the course of the match.
Not so good view of the Gabba at the moment. Day 1 Washout on cards?
Nothing good at the moment from Brisbane. As it seems, there are puddles on the ground and the forecast of more rain is on in the next few hours. Looks like this session is likely to be washed out.
It's still pouring, according to Mark Nicholas. But the intensity of downpour has lessened a bit.
More bad news from The Gabba. It's still raining in Brisbane and there is plenty of water on the ground. Post-lunch session is delayed.
Expectedly, lunch has been taken on Day 1 of the third Test.
There was a forecast for thunderstorm too on the day. But if MET dept is to be believed, the weather is lot better afterwards as compared to now.
There is a lot of water alongside the covers which are visible to live eye. The drainage system here at the Gabba is fantastic. Hopefully, we will be abal to resume play once this spell stops.
Rain come again in Brisbane, this time with a huge intensity. The groundstaff quicky covers the pitch as the players are back in the dressing room. Australia reach 28/0 in 13.2 overs.
Akash Deep replaces Mohammed Siraj as the Bengal pacer showed early signs of swing against Nathan McSweene. Maiden over to start with for Akash Dee. AUS 24/0
Play resumes after a 30 minute stoppage due to rain. Mohammed Siraj finishes his unfinished over. AUS 24/0 (7)
There it is. Play to restart at 6:45 AM IST.
It's overcast at the moment but the good news is that the rain has stopped. The covers are being pulled off and we should have a restart shortly. The on-field umpires had a quick chat on the ground without umbrellas. Rohit Sharma walks out of the glass door and gestures towards the umpires with his hand. The umpires indicated 15 more minutes presumably. The pitch covers is being peeled off too.
ICYMI, India made two changes in their playing XI from Adelaide. Akash Deep came in plae of Harshit Rana while Ravindra Jadeja replaced Ravichandran Ashwin. Notably, India have played three didferent spinners in three Tests.
The umpires are out in the middle with umbrellas for a quick chat. The drizzle is still on with the pitch covered. The Indian players are having a quick chat with their captain Rohit Sharma while Steve Smith looks like solving a sudoku with a pen in hand.
A slight drizzle has forced the players go back into the dressing rooms. According to weather report, these are ‘scattered showers’. The groundstaff has covered the whole pitch. India's Rohit Sharma, fielding coach T Dilip and bowling coach Morne Morkel are having a chat on th ground.
India Vs Australia Test live: A good start for Australia in Brisbane so far. Jasprit Bumrah, once again, has been the pick of Indian bowling while Mohammed Siraj has leaked a few runs.
