Sunil Gavaskar lashed out at the Indian cricket team on live television after India's embarrassing loss against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) on Sunday. Starting on a high after winning the Perth Test, India lost three out of their remaining four games to let go of the title after 10 years.

Not only did India lose the Test series, but it also cost them a place in the World Test Championship (WTC) final, which would have been their third consecutive time had they qualified for the Lord's showdown.

After the fifth Test match in Sydney, Gavaskar was asked whether the Indian team should have prepared better by playing pink ball matches and in conditions like Australia before their tour Down Under.

Replying to this, Gavaskar couldn't control himself. “Who are we? We don't know cricket. We just speak just for the sake of TV and get money, don't listen to us, we're nothing. Listen from one ear, remove from another,” said the Indian legend on Star Sports during the post-match analysis.

Sunil Gavaskar lashes on Indian coaching staff

The 65-year-old also questioned the coaching staff's role under head coach Gautam Gambhir. Barring fielding coach T Dilip, all of India's support staff were changed when Gambhir took over the coaching reins from Rahul Dravid. South African Morne Morkel is the bowling coach, Abhishek Nayar is the batting coach, and Dutch Ryan ten Doeschate is the assistant coach.

“What is your coaching staff doing? Like the way we were bowled out for 46 and the kind of batting Indian batters have shown (against New Zealand and Australia), the question should arise: what did you do? Where is the improvement?" asked Gavaskar.

"In this programme, you might ask if these players should continue in the future. I am asking, shall we continue with this coaching staff? We have two to three months time before the England tour. How will you improve in the future?” he added.
