The Indian Meteorological Department, on Saturday issued rainfall warning for certain districts in Maharashtra. Moderate spells of rain are very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Palghar, Nasik, Dhule, Nandurbar, Kolhapur, and Sindhudurg during the next three to four hours, predicted the weather observatory.

The meteorological department has further predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall for several districts, for the next few days till August 6, 2024.

Currently, Palghar, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Nasik, Pune, and Satara are on orange alert , for Sunday, i.e August 4. The remaining areas including Mumbai, Sindhudurg, and Dhule are on yellow alert, as there are high chances of heavy rainfall at isolated places in these areas, IMD stated.

Most of the districts are very likely to receive moderate rainfall on August 5, and 6. Places such as Raigad, Ratnagiri, Pune, and Satara, however, are likely to face heavy rainfall in isolated places, and ghat areas. The plains in these districts might receive light to moderate rains, said the IMD report.

The weather observatory body has further issued a yellow alert for districts such as Akola, Amravati, Bhandari, Buldhana and Washim, for the next three days. Thunderstorms with lightning are very likely to occur at isolated areas in these districts.

Meanwhile, Gadchiroli, Yavatmal, Nagpur, Wardha, and Chandrapur are on a yellow alert for consecutive days from today, to August 6, Tuesday. Thunderstorms with lightning at isolated places, are very likely to occur, the IMD stated in its report.

Mumbai has also been experiencing strong winds and heavy rains. A video from the news agency ANI further showed rainy scenes from the Marine Drive Area, where people were spotted walking amid gusty winds. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had also issued a high tide alert on the social media platform X.
