Mahakumbh last shahi snan 2025: Massive turnout of over 40 lakh pilgrims at Sangam till 6 am on Mahashivratri

  • As the Mahakumbh concludes on February 26, over 41.11 lakh devotees have immersed themselves in the Sangam by 6 am. Attendance rose sharply from 11.66 lakh at 2 am to 25.64 lakh by 4 am.

As the 45-day Mahakumbh concludes today, February 26, on Mahashivratri, a large number of people are heading to Prayagraj to take a holy dip at the Sangam.

According to government data, by 2 am today, over 11.66 lakh devotees immersed themselves in the Sangam. This number surged to 25.64 lakh within the next two hours and nearly doubled by 6 am, with 41.11 lakh devotees taking a dip. The governemtn data also added that by 10 am,

The data added that 81.09 lakhs have taken holy dip till 10 am while 64.7 crore is total snan till February 25.

Being the last auspicious 'snan' of the Maha Kumbh, a large number of devotees had begun to gather on the banks of the Sangam from close to midnight, and while some camped and waited patiently to take the dip at 'Brahma Muhurt', scores of them performed the bathing rituals much before the appointed time. Billed as the world's largest spiritual gathering on earth, the mega religious festival on its last day attracted pilgrims from all four corners of the country.

The Maha Kumbh has witnessed six special bathing dates -- Paush Purnima on January 13, Makar Sankranti on January 14, Mauni Amavasya on January 29, Basant Panchami on February 3, Maghi Purnima on February 12, and Mahashivratri on February 26 -- including three 'Amrit Snan'.

Given the scale of the event and the sheer volume of attendees, authorities have enforced a "no vehicle zone" in the mela area and Prayagraj besides implementing strict crowd control measures and logistical support to facilitate a seamless culmination of Maha Kumbh 2025.

According to reports, authorities have made appeals to devotees to take a holy dip at the ghat nearest to them instead of crowding at the Sangam.

As per the advisory, those devotees coming from the Uttari Jhunsi route should go to Harishchandra Ghat and Old GT Ghat, and those from the Dakshini Jhunsi should use Arail Ghat.

A dip at Bharadwaj Ghat, Nagavasuki Ghat, Mori Ghat, Kali Ghat, Ram Ghat, and Hanuman Ghat has been advised for those devotees entering from Pande area.
