UP Hathras Stampede LIVE Updates: The Uttar Pradesh Police filed a First Information Report (FIR) on Wednesday against the organizers of the religious congregation in Hathras, where at least 121 people lost their lives in a stampede.
Notably, the FIR does not include Baba Narayan Hari, also known as Saakar Vishwa Hari Bhole Baba, as an accused.
Death toll in Hathras Stampede rises to 116; people died due to suffocation after the stampede broke out during the conclusion of a ‘Satsang’ at Phulrai village near Mandi of Sikandrarau in Hathras. A Satsang is a Hindu religious congregation that usually takes place overnight.
"Twenty-seven bodies have arrived in Etah hospital. Among those killed are 23 women, three children and a man," Senior Superintendent of Police, Etah, Rajesh Kumar Singh said.
The stampede apparently occurred due to overcrowding, Sikandara Rao police station SHO Ashish Kumar said.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed condolences to the families of those killed in the stampede. He instructed officials to reach the accident site and carry out relief measures.

A 45-year-old woman from Gwalior, sole breadwinner of her family, was killed in the stampede at Hathras that claimed more than 120 lives. Ramshri, resident of Jagjivan Nagar locality here, had travelled to Hathras in Uttar Pradesh with some ten others for taking part in the satsang on Tuesday.
The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday formed a three-member judicial commission headed by a retired High Court judge to probe the Hathras tragedy, looking also into the possibility that a “conspiracy” was behind the stampede that killed 121 people at a religious gathering.
Retired Allahabad High Court judge Brijesh Kumar Srivastav leads the inquiry commission, which will submit its report in two months. Retired IAS officers Hemant Rao and Bhavesh Kumar are the other members, the state government said in Lucknow.
A day after a stampede in Hathras claimed 121 lives, Uttar Pradesh minister Asim Arun on Wednesday said the state government has started work on SOPs for granting permission for large gatherings to prevent such incidents in future.
He said Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed officials to prepare the standard operating procedures (SOPs) and permission for events would be granted only if the "basic, minimum" conditions for amenities are met.

He said that as per the information received 17 people in Agra district were killed. Out of the deceased, 16 are women and one is a man.

Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel forms a three-member commission to probe the Hathras stampede incident.
The pilgrims from not only Uttar Pradesh but also three other states lost their lives in the deadly stampede at Hathras, the Uttar Pradesh government said on Wednesday as it announced compensation to the families of all deceased.
The victims included pilgrims from Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Rajasthan, according to a statement released in Lucknow.
Additionally, the pilgrims from 17 districts of Uttar Pradesh were also among the deceased.
A lawyer representing Bhole Baba claimed Wednesday that "anti-social elements" were behind the stampede at the preacher's 'satsang' here in which 121 people died a day back, and contradicted preliminary reports that the tragedy struck when his followers rushed to collect the soil touched by his feet.
According to preliminary government reports, the stampede occurred when a large number of his followers, mostly women, rushed towards Baba Narayan Hari alias Saakar Vishwa Hari Bhole Baba when he was leaving to get a closer glimpse of the preacher and collect his "charan raj".
"Some anti-social elements hatched a conspiracy. When Narayan Saakar Hari left the venue, his vehicles left, our volunteers and followers failed to understand what was happening due to the conspiracy. This was done as per a plan and should be investigated," lawyer A P Singh told PTI.

UP Hathras Stampede LIVE: Issuing an official statement, self-styled Godman Narayan Sakar Hari, also known as Bhole Baba, expressed his condolences over the incident and claimed that the chaos erupted a long time after he had already left the venue, reported India Today.

UP Hathras Stampede LIVE Updates: A PIL was filed in the Allahabad High Court on Wednesday demanding a CBI inquiry into the stampede which claimed 121 lives, PTI reported.
The PIL, filed by advocate Gaurav Dwivedi, said the district officials are "fully responsible" for the negligence that led to the stampede.
In his petition addressed to the chief justice and other judges, Dwivedi has said that it was learnt through media that more than a hundred people had died and many were injured in the stampede that took place after the 'satsang' in Hathras district.

Minister of State for Education (Independent Charge) in the Government of Uttar Pradesh, Sandip Kumar Singh Lodhi said, “It is a very unfortunate incident and we have been following up on every update from Hathras all night,” reported ANI. "It is really sad that the death toll has reached 121. About 35 people are injured," he added.

It adds, "To prevent the crowd from reaching Baba, his private security and 'Sevadar' pushed some people and they fell down. The crowd went out of control and panicked. To get relief from this, people rushed towards the open field nearby where multiple people slipped on a slope and the people started running over them," reported ANI citing the letter.

UP Hathras Stampede LIVE Updates: Advocate Vishal Tiwari filed a petition in the Supreme Court on Wednesday seeking direction to the State government of Uttar Pradesh to submit a status report. It also sought response to initiate legal action against the persons, authorities and officials for their negligent conduct
The petition sought direction to appoint a five-member expert committee under the supervision of a retired top Court judge to enquire into the Hathras stampede incident.
The plea further sought direction from the committee to suggest and frame guidelines and safety measures to avoid such incidents. Around 121 people have been reported dead and 28 were injured in the Bhole Baba satsang held on July 2.
