Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday responded to a Constitution debate in Lok Sabha after a heated exchanges between the opposition and treasury benches for the last two days, and launched a scathing attack on the Congress party and Gandhi family.

Discussion on the Glorious Journey of 75 Years of the Constitution of India were held in Lok Sabha from Friday.

Targetting Gandhi family, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that one family of Congress left no stone unturned in hurting Constitution. “I do not want to make personal criticism on anyone but it is important to place facts before the country. That is why, I would like to do that. One family of Congress left no stone unturned in hurling a blow to the Constitution. One Congress family relentlessly pursuing wrong thoughts, wrong deeds and wrong policies.”

Modi said that Congress always insulted the constitution and reduce its importance and alleged that the current generation of Gandhi family taking forward legacy of attacking Constitution after tasting blood long back.

The Prime Minister also blamed the Congress for problems in Jammu and Kashmir.

Meanwhile, he added that his government's policies, decision-making process in last 10 years have been aimed at strengthening India's unity.

Earlier in the day, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said VD Savarkar, who is seen as an ideologue of the BJP and RSS, had said there is nothing Indian about the Constitution, and that he preferred Hindu religious text 'Manusmriti' to it.

Here's what PM Modi said

— Our Constitution lays the foundation for India's unity.

— For all of us, for all citizens and for all democracy-loving citizens across the world, this is a moment of great pride.

— It is time to celebrate 75 years of Constitution, I am glad Parliament is also part of it," said Modi.

— Distorted mindsets led to attacks on the idea of unity in diversity, the foundation of the Constitution after Independence.

— We need to celebrate our diversity. It will be the biggest tribute to Babasaheb Ambedkar.

— India is not just a large democracy, but the mother of democracy due to thousands of years of democratic traditions.

— In India, the Constitution gave this right to women at the outset.

— Our country is moving forward very fast and taking strong steps to become the third largest economy.

— Women are at the centre of every initiative of government, their representation in parliament and council of ministers increasing.

— Constitution was torn apart when it was completing 25 years.

— GST played key role in strengthening India's economic unity, some credit also goes to previous government in this regard.

— Having tasted blood, Indira Gandhi imposed Emergency by misusing Constitution.

— Congress did not follow its own constitution. 12 state committees wanted Sardar Patel as PM. Not even one wanted Nehru to become PM. Still a family had its way. People who do not respect party's constitution can't regard Constitution.
