Mumbai news: Fire breaks out in Kanakia Samarpan Tower in Boriwali; 1 dead, 3 injured

A fire broke out in a high rise building in Borivali in Mumbai on Thursday, a civic official said.

According to the initial reports, oner person aged seventy was killed and three others were injured in the incident.

The blaze started in the 22-storey Kanakia Samarpan Tower, close to Magathane metro rail station, at 12:37 pm and was doused at 1:02 pm in an operation helmed by personnel of the Fire Brigade, police and the local BMC ward.

Ambulances from the 108 service were kept on stand by to address any medical emergency.

The cause of the fire is unknown yet.

“The fire was confined to electric wiring and cables in the electric duct between the first and 16th floor. Four people were rushed to a private hospital due to suffocation caused by the fire and fumes. Doctors declared Mahendra Shah (70) dead on arrival. Three others, identified as Ranjana Rajput (59), Shivani Rajput (26), and Shobha Savle (70) are hospitalised. They are stable,” the civic official said as per a PTI report.

In June, a fire had erupted in a high-rise tower in the Byculla area of south Mumbai.

The blaze had erupted in a flat on the 10th floor of the Monte South building's A wing in the Khatao Mill Compound in Byculla (W) around 11:42 pm.

Although the fire was contained within the 10th floor apartment, smoke had permeated throughout the entire floor, leaving some individuals stranded on higher levels of the building.

Responding to the emergency, eight fire trucks along with other necessary vehicles from the fire brigade reached the site.

The Mumbai Fire Brigade, Mumbai Police, 108 Ambulance Service, the power division of BEST, and the local ward staff of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, had rapidly mobilized to the scene.
