The Bengaluru city police registered a case against the manager of One8 Commune, a restaurant backed by Indian cricketer Virat Kohli, for operating beyond permissible hours. The police stated that the pub on MG Road in central Bengaluru served customers until 1.30 am, beyond the permissible time limit of 1 pm.

The police also booked several other establishments for operating beyond the permitted closing time, violating the city's regulations.

According to media reports, a police sub-inspector (PSI) on patrol duty, acting on a tipoff, visited the restaurant around 1:20 am on July 6 and found it open. The PSI from the Cubbon Park police station filed a non-cognisable report (NCR). With the Court's permission, police later converted the NCR into an FIR.

“We have booked around 3-4 pubs for running late till 1:30 am last night. We received complaints of loud music being played. Pubs were allowed to remain open only till 1 am and not beyond that,” said DCP Central.

Last year, a controversy arose about the Virat-Kohli-backed restaurant when a man from Tamil Nadu shared a video on X recounting how he was denied entry to the Mumbai branch of One8 Commune for wearing a “veshti.” The man said he felt “disappointed” and “hurt” by the incident.

The Virat Kohli-owned restaurant chain also made headlines last year when the Delhi High Court prohibited it from playing songs for which Phonographic Performance Limited (PPL) had the copyright.

Virat Kohli's restaurant, One8 Commune, has outlets in major cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, and Kolkata. The Bengaluru location of the pub is on the sixth floor of Ratnam’s Complex on Kasturba Road, near the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, opened last December.

At One8 Commune, patrons can enjoy views of Cubbon Park and Chinnaswamy Stadium while dining. Kohli has a special connection with Bengaluru, having played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore since the start of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
