Cyclone Dana Live Updates: The Netaji Subhash Chandra International Airport in Kolkata, and Odisha's Biju International Airport resumed flight operations after a slight improvement in weather conditions.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD), in its latest release, has forecasted flash floods in 16 districts of Odisha due to heavy rainfall. The districts anticipated to experience flash floods include Angul, Balasore, Boudh, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Kandhamal, Keonjhar, Khurda, Mayurbhanj, Nayagarh, and Puri.
Meanwhile, in Kolkata, severa areas remain inundated due to heavy rainfall. Kolkata mayor Firhad Hakim said that all pumping stations have been alerted to prevent further water logging, and Kolkata Municipal Corporation has set up suction machines to clear gully pits and manholes.
In Odisha, last night, government authorities and rescue forces had begun the evacuation of people from areas that were likely to be affected by the cyclone. To deal with the relocation of nearly 10 lakh people, multipurpose cyclone shelters, flood shelters, and other buildings have been identified and has been prepared for temporary relief camps.
Arrangements have also been made for the provision of food, drinking water, lighting, sanitation and health facilities to the people to be evacuated to such shelters, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari said.
Most vulnerable West Bengal, Odisha districts to cyclone Dana
According to IMD forecast, fourteen districts in Odisha are likely to bear the brunt of cyclone Dana: Angul, Puri, Nayagarh, Khordha, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Ganjam and Mayurbhanj. In West Bengal, South 24 Parganas, North 24 Parganas, and Purba Medinipur, along with coastal areas and neighbouring districts like Paschim Medinipur, Bankura, Jhargram, and Hooghly, will witness the worst impact of impending cyclone.

Cyclone Dana Live: Biju Patnaik International Airport here resumed its operation at 8 am this morning as the weather conditions became normal in Bhubaneswar, an official said.
The airport operation was suspended from 5 pm on October 24 in view of cyclone Dana which made landfall between Dhamra and Bhitarkanika from midnight to early morning.
Though the airport authority had decided to suspend flight operation till 9 am on Friday, the operation resumed at 8 am as the weather conditions became normal, said Airport Director Prasanna Pradhan.

As Odisha experiences strong winds at a speed of 100-110 Kmph gusting to 120 kmph, the IMD said the landfall process would continue for the next 1-2 hours.
IMD in a post on X said, "The severe cyclonic storm "Dana" moved north-northwestwards with a speed of 12 kmph and lay centred over north coastal Odisha, about 15 km north of Dhamara and 30 km north-northwest of Habalikhati nature camp (Bhitarkanika)."
"It is likely to move nearly west-northwestwards across north Odisha and weaken gradually into a cyclonic storm by the forenoon of today, the 25th of October. The system is under continuous surveillance of the Doppler weather radar at Paradip."
Cyclone Dana Live: Several trees were uprooted due to gusty winds and heavy incessant rains in the Bhadrak district of Odisha as the landfall process of Cyclone 'Dana' continues in the early hours of Friday.
Several roads were blocked in the area after trees were uprooted following strong winds and heavy downpours.
Odisha Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja says, "Chief Minister reviewed the cyclone preparedness and situation. All districts have been assessed. More than 6 lakh people have been evacuated and moved to cyclone shelters where cooked food is being provided. Electricity has been switched off, telecommunications have also been shut down till tomorrow. Several senior officers and ministers have been deployed by the Chief Minister. All arrangements have been made to deal with the situation."
IMD Update on Cyclonic Storm Landfall:
- The landfall process has commenced for the severe cyclonic storm.
- The storm is located pproximately 50 km east-northeast of Paradip, Odisha, about 40 km south-southeast of Dhamara, Odisha, and roughly 160 km southwest of Sagar Island, West Bengal.
- The storm is expected to move north-northwestwards. It is forecasted to cross the coasts of north Odisha and West Bengal between Puri and Sagar Island, close to Bhitarkanika and Dhamara (Odisha).
- The storm is predicted to have sustained wind speeds of 100-110 km/h, with gusts reaching up to 120 km/h.
- The landfall process is anticipated to continue until the morning of October 25.
