A day after an Air India pilot from Uttar Pradesh committed suicide in Mumbai, her family members accused her boyfriend of harassing her for eating non-vegetarian food. Commercial pilot Shrishti Tuli took the drastic step after her boyfriend forced her to stop eating non-vegetarian food at an event, reported PTI, citing an official.

Following her death, the police arrested Tuli's boyfriend, and the court remanded him to four-day police custody. Further investigation is underway.

“In the jurisdiction of Powai Police, a woman named Srishti Tuli, who is said to be a pilot, committed suicide on the night of the 24th and 25th of November. After this, the police arrested her boyfriend Aditya Pandit under 108 BNS,” ANI quoted Mumbai Police's statement.

As per PTI, Srishti Tuli, from Gorakhpur, hanged herself with a data cable late at night at her apartment in the Kanakia Rain Forest building in the Marol area. The tragic incident followed a fight with her boyfriend, Aaditya Pandit, who lived in Delhi.

Air India Pilot's boyfriend had borrowed 65,000 from her

Srishti Tuli's uncle also accused her boyfriend of extorting money and harassment. He also claimed that Shrishti had transferred around 65,000 to his family members during Diwali.

“We have managed to check only one month's statement so far. Around Diwali, about 65,000 was transferred to his family members. I am convinced that he was blackmailing her. I have now asked the bank for the whole year's statement. Maybe, she had refused him money and that became the cause of her death,” NDTV quoted Shrishti Tuli's uncle Vivek Tuli

Shrishti Tuli was the first woman pilot from Gorakhpur and was even felicitated by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Shrishti Tuli's uncle Vivek Tuli told India Today in an interview.

Tuli had been living in Mumbai for work since June last year. She and Punit met while pursuing a commercial pilot course in Delhi two years ago and began a relationship, reported PTI, citing an official from Powai police station.

Before committing suicide, Tuli had a quarrel with Pandit, after which he left for Delhi by car. During the drive, Tuli called Pandit and told him that she would end her life. After that, Pandit immediately rushed to Mumbai and found the door of her flat locked from inside, official told PTI.

Later, he opened the door with the help of a keymaker and found Tuli hanging with a data cable. The woman was rushed to the Seven Hills Hospital, where she was declared brought dead. No suicide note was found in the house.

Her family has accused Aaditya Pandit of abetment of suicide and also claimed that he had tampered with evidence at the suicide spot. Tuli's uncle later approached the police and told them that Pandit would harass her and even humiliate her in public and had pressurised her to change her food habits, the news agency reported.
