A massive fire erupted at a restaurant in Rajouri Garden, Delhi, on December 9. Ten fire tenders have arrived at the accident site. Firefighters battled thick smoke, and authorities have cordoned off the area.

Delhi: A massive fire erupted at a restaurant in West Delhi's Rajouri Garden on Monday. Ten fire tenders were rushed to the spot to extinguish the fire and bring the situation under control. 

Video footage from the site showed people jumping onto the roof of a neighbouring building to escape the flames.

According to media reports, the fire started at Jungle Jamboree restaurant. Delhi Fire Services chief Atul Garg said, “We received a fire call near Rajouri Garden Metro Station at 2.01 pm. 10 fire tenders were immediately dispatched to the site to control the blaze.” News agency PTI reported.

As shown in the video shared by a netizen, Arun Aggarwal, thick smoke engulfed the area as firefighters attempted to douse the fire with water jets. Authorities cordoned off the vicinity amid panic among the nearby shopkeepers. 

The post's caption reads, “Huge outbreak at Rajouri Garden, West Delhi—Jungle Jamboree restaurant.”

According to the PTI report, at least 20 people were in the restaurant at the time of the incident. A shopkeeper, Ghanshyam Agarwal, said it was around 2 pm when many local shopkeepers witnessed black smoke billowing from Jungle Jamboree restaurant.

He added, “We immediately informed the police and fire brigade teams. More than 25 people jumped from the open sitting area to a nearby building's terrace to save their lives.”

Delhi Fire Service Assistant Divisional Officer (ADO) Sarabjit Singh said 11 fire tenders reached the spot as soon as the information was received. “The fire has been completely extinguished,” adding that except for a woman, who got injured after slipping while descending the stairs, no one was injured.

Andhra Pradesh: Woman dies after house catches fire

In an unrelated incident that took place in the early hours on Monday, an 18-year-old woman, who was at her grandparents' residence in Nandyala district, died in a “fire incident.” According to police, she was in a relationship with 21-year-old Raghavendra for three years. In the incident, Raghavendra suffered 70 per cent burns. However, the cause of the fire hasn't been discovered yet.

A police official said, “She was staying with her grandparents in Nandikotkuru. Around 4 am, there was some commotion, and he (Raghavendra) came out with severe burns. By then, the girl was completely burnt,” reported PTI.

Police said the fire was an “accident,” according to Raghavendra. The probe found that Raghavendra visited the girl at her grandparent's house on Sunday night.
