Vodafone Idea share price dipped on Tuesday after the sharp rally in the telecom shares on Monday. The stock hogged the limelight in yesterday's trade after the Government of India officially raised its stake in the cash-strapped telco to 48.99% from 22.60%, by converting a part of its spectrum payment dues into equity shares valued at ₹36,950 crore. Vodafone UK’s shareholding in Vi decreased to approximately 16.1% from around 24.4% prior to the transaction, while the Aditya Birla Group’s stake reduced to 9.4% from just over the current 14%.
Vodafone Idea shares slipped below the ₹8 per share mark and ended Tuesday's session 1.24% down at ₹7.97 apiece. The telecom stock has gained 6% in one month, but has fallen over 13% in three months. Over the past one year, Vodafone Idea stock price has plunged more than 37%.

Vodafone Idea Share Price Live: Care Ratings Limited has upgraded the rating assigned to the Long-Term Bank Facilities and Short-Term Bank Facilities of Vodafone Idea on April 21.
The long-term bank facilities rating has been revised from CARE BB+ (Outlook: Stable) to CARE BBB- (Outlook: Stable). Similarly, the short-term bank facilities rating has been upgraded from CARE A4+ to CARE A3.

Vodafone Idea Share Price Live: Vodafone Idea loss could decline to ₹7465.6 crore in the March 2025 quarter from ₹7674.6 crore posted in the same period last year. However, on a QoQ basis, it could rise from ₹6609 crore posted in the December 2024 quarter.
KIE expects a revenue decline of 2% QoQ, led by continued subs loss. It also estimates a reported EBITDA decline of 4.1% QoQ on lower revenues and higher network Opex. Additionally, ARPU is expected to remain flat QoQ at ₹163/month.
Vodafone Idea Share Price Live: Citi said it continues to view Vodafone Idea (Vi) as a “high-risk buy,” but remains optimistic about the company’s prospects, especially in light of the recent equity conversion by the government. The telecom major recently announced that the government has converted spectrum dues worth ₹3,700 crore into equity, boosting the government’s shareholding in the company from 22.6 percent to 48.99 percent.
The brokerage maintained its 'buy' rating on the stock, along with a target price of ₹12.
Vodafone Idea Share Price Live: Vi’s MBB subscriber base increased marginally by 0.04 million in January 2025. However, its active subscriber base declined by 0.7 million, and the overall subscriber base fell by 1.3 million during the same month.
Vi’s management previously stated that it is hopeful the ongoing network expansion capex will help reverse subscriber losses by end-FY25, although it acknowledged the difficulty in predicting a precise timeline for the turnaround.
Vodafone Idea Share Price Live: Vodafone Idea shares continued to trade with a negative bias in the early afternoon trade. The stock was at ₹8.06, down 0.12% around 12.02 PM.
Vodafone Idea share price opened at ₹8.08 and touched the high and low of ₹8.11 and ₹7.95, respectively.
Kotak Institutional Equities expects a gradual moderation in capex in the telecom sector. Both Bharti and Jio had invested heavily in their 5G networks over the past 2–3 years, achieving impressive early coverage and healthy subscriber adoption. As such, we expect Bharti’s capex to moderate from INR 400 billion in FY2025 to around INR 250 billion by FY2030, while Jio’s capex is likely to decline from INR 451 billion in FY2025 to about INR 330 billion by FY2030, said KIE.
Vi (Idea) is the only telecom player that could see a meaningful improvement in its capex trajectory, as it has not been able to invest as aggressively as the other two major players, it added. The company has guided for INR 500–550 billion of capex over FY2025–28; however, successful execution of this plan will depend on:
1. The industry taking adequate price hikes,
2. Vi being able to stabilize its subscriber base, and
3. Vi being able to raise capital.
Vodafone Idea Share Price Live: “Our DCF-based target price (TP) of INR 355 is based on a 50% probability of Vi turning into a sustainable telco (in which case TP would be INR 480/share) and a 50% probability of a duopoly market (in which case TP would decline to INR 230/share),” said JM Financial
The brokerage maintains HOLD rating, as the risk to Vi’s long-term survivability continues to impair Indus’ revenue visibility, given that it generates 35–40% of its revenue from Vi.
Vodafone Idea Share Price Live: MOSL believes more comfort on Vi’s survival and improved visibility on the completion of Vi’s capex plans could be materially near-term positive for Indus Towers. However, we retain our Neutral rating on Indus, as we believe a sustained re-rating remains contingent on Vi’s long-term revival, which in turn is dependent on its operational improvements. We would use any bounce in Indus’ stock price to reduce exposure.

odafone Idea Share Price Live: GoI has been supportive of a 3+1 market structure in the Indian telecom industry, and telcos have also raised tariffs sharply over the last five years. However, Vi has not seen any significant operational improvement, as the benefits from tariff hikes have been offset by continued subscriber losses.
We believe stabilization of Vi’s subscriber base, along with further relief measures from GoI, remains imperative for Vi’s long-term survival. Despite the likely acceleration in capex over the medium term, gaining back subscribers would be a tall ask for Vi, given its peers’ superior free cash flow generation and deeper pockets.
Vi remains a high-risk, high-reward play. We raise our target price to INR 6.5/share (from INR 5 earlier), driven by GoI’s equity conversion at a premium.
Vodafone Idea Share Price Live: Despite the recent equity raise of ~INR 260 billion and the equity conversion of spectrum dues worth ₹370 billion, for VIL to turn around into a sustainable telco, JM Financial believes it would require multiple significant tariff hikes that can boost ARPU to ₹380+ by FY28 (vs. ARPU of ₹163 in 3QFY25) in order to meet:
a) the annual ₹430 billion payment obligation to GoI over FY28–31, and
b) internally fund a sharp, sustainable jump in capex to ₹100–150 billion per annum in the long term, or 15–20% of revenue (in line with the 16–20% of revenue assumed for Bharti and Jio), to give VIL any chance of holding on to its subscriber market share.
Further, there is no clarity on VIL's long-pending ₹250 billion debt raise, which is critical for the execution of its ₹500–550 billion 3-year capex plan to arrest the decline in its subscriber market share, said the brokerage.
Hence, it maintained SELL on VIL (unchanged TP of INR 9/share).
Vodafone Idea Share Price Live: Vodafone Idea share price continued to trade with cuts within an hour of opening. After gyrating between gains and losses in the initial 15 minutes of trading session, the stock declined and traded in the red. As of 10.08 am, Vodafone Idea share price was at ₹8.02, down 0.62%.
Vodafone Idea Share Price Live: JM Financial believes the GoI converted ₹370 billion of Vi’s spectrum dues primarily to ensure its stake does not exceed 49%. This conversion should fully cover Vi’s spectrum dues for FY26 and partially cover FY27 spectrum dues.
Vi’s management previously indicated that following the end of the 4-year moratorium in end-September 2025, the company will need to make payments to the GoI of approximately ₹280 billion in FY26, and ₹430 billion annually during FY27–FY31, towards total GoI dues of ₹2,273 billion as of end-3QFY25.
These dues comprise: Deferred spectrum payment obligations of INR 1,570 billion, and AGR liability of ₹703 billion.
The moratorium for spectrum payment obligations related to auctions until CY16 ends on varying dates between October 2025 and September 2026. The moratorium for AGR dues ends in March 2026.
Therefore, this equity conversion by GoI is expected to fully cover Vi’s spectrum dues for FY26 and partially offset its FY27 spectrum obligations.
Vodafone Idea Share Price Live: GoI’s stake in Vi has now increased from ~22.6% to ~49%, while Vi’s existing combined promoter stake has been diluted from ~38.7% to a modest ~25.5%. However, as GoI’s equity conversion is happening significantly above Vi’s current market price, there would not be any value dilution for Vi’s equity holders.
“Despite the spectrum dues conversion into equity, Vi would continue to require more relief from GoI on AGR dues as well as spectrum payments beyond 1H FY28. With GoI’s stake rising to 49% after the latest equity conversion, any further equity conversion of dues could lead to GoI’s stake crossing 50%, which could turn Vi into a Public Sector Unit (PSU),” said MOSL analysts.
Vodafone Idea Share Price Live: GoI equity conversion provides cash flow relief for Vi and is a key medium-term positive development. However, stabilization of its subscriber base, long-pending debt raise, and further relief on AGR dues remain vital for Vi’s long-term survival. GoI’s continued commitment to maintaining a 3+1 market construct in the Indian telecom sector and the easing of Vi’s cash flow constraint are also positive for Indus Towers. We retain our Sell rating on Vi with a revised target price of INR 6.5/share, while we remain Neutral on Indus Towers and would use any bounce to reduce exposure.
