Sourav Ganguly Biopic: The suspense over who will play Sourav Ganguly in the upcoming biopic has been lifted. Dada confirmed the news during an event in West Bengal, noting that it will take over a year to release due to scheduling issues.

Sourav Ganguly Biopic: Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao will play the role of Sourav Ganguly, who is popularly known as ‘Dada’ or Maharaja of Indian Cricket. The legendary Indian national cricket team player is regarded as one of India's most successful cricket captains.

Sourav Ganguly put the rumours about the protagonist to rest by confirming the news during an event in West Bengal's Bardhaman on Friday. However, the biopic will take over a year to release because of scheduling issues. This comes after recent biographical sports drama hits such as MS Dhoni: The Untold Story and 83.

Initially, Ranbir Kapoor and Ayushmann Khurrana were considered for the role of lead actor, but ultimately Rajkummar Rao was selected.

Sourav Ganguly drops confirmation

While addressing the media, Sourav Ganguly said, "From what I've heard, Rajkummar Rao will play the role (the titular role)...but there are issues of dates...so it will take more than a year to hit the screens."

Sourav Ganguly's biopic will not only cover his 18,575 international runs, but also his aggressive captaincy and his impact on Indian cricket.

The left-handed batsman and former skipper played 113 Tests and 311 ODIs for India. In his international career, Sourav Ganguly scored 18,575 runs across all formats. After being appointed as the president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), the Prince of Kolkata presided over as the president of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in October last year.

Media reports indicate that the movie will throw light upon Sourav Ganguly's administrative roles as BCCI President and his influence on Cricket Association of Bengal. Some reports suggest that groundwork has already kick started and the filmmakers met Sourav Ganguly at Eden Gardens. While the film is ints early stages, it is important to note that Vikramaditya Motwane will be directing the biopic and the script will be written by Abhay Koranne, IMDb reported.
