YouTubers Ranveer Allahbadia and Ashish Chanchlani on Monday approached Maharashtra Cyber Cell to record their statements in connection with India's Got Latent controversy.
They are currently recording their statements, reported PTI.
The Maharashtra Cyber Cell had issued the summons as part of the probe. Ranveer Allahbadia, who uses the online name ‘BeerBiceps’, had previously skipped the summons.
Ranveer Allahbadia appeared as a judge in one of the episodes of India's Got Latent, where he asked a contestant if they would rather watch their parents have sex for the rest of their lives or join them once to put a stop to it. The statement received heavy backlash online. Youtuber Ashish Chanchalani was a part of the panel.
Following the uproar over his comments, Allahbadia apologised for his statement. He posted an apology video on the social media platform X with the caption, “I shouldn’t have said what I said on India’s got latent. I’m sorry.” The podcaster said, “My comment was not appropriate, it wasn't even funny. Comedy is not my forte. I am just here to say sorry."
Ranveer said he “personally had a lapse in judgment. It wasn't cool on my part.” Allahbadia said, “The podcast is watched by people of all ages. I don't want to be the kind of person that takes that responsibility lightly, and family is the last thing that I would ever disrespect."
The row escalated after a complaint was filed against Ranveer Allahbadia, influencer Apoorva, comedian Samay Raina, and the show organisers.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court criticised Ranveer Allahbadia for his controversial statements on India's Got Latent.
"Such behaviour has to be condemned. Just because you are popular, you cannot take society for granted. Is there anyone on earth who would like this language? There is something very dirty in his mind which has been vomited. Why should we protect him," the SC said, according to Bar and Bench.
However, the court protected Allahbadia from arrest and asked him to submit his passport and not travel abroad without the permission of the Court.
