Oscars 2025: Conan O'Brien gives sweet shoutout to India, greets with namaste

Oscars 2025: Conan O'Brien who is hosting Academy Awards 2025 for the first time, gave a shoutout to India. Not only did he speak in Hindi but also folded hands, addressing people with a namaste.

Besides Hindi, Conan also spoke in Spanish and Mandarin on the global stage for the worldwide viewers.

He said, “Greetings to the people of India. It's morning there, so I hope you enjoy your breakfast with the Oscars.” He went on and delivered a monologue, full of sarcastic comments, as expected.

He also poked fun at himself and said, “I know what you’re thinking: ‘Did Conan not have work done? Seriously. He looks his age.’” As Conan did not receive a standing ovation during the first bit of the show, the host also humourously told the audience to sit down and take their seats.

O’Brien mentioned the backlash surrounding Emilia Pérez's actor Karla Sofía Gascón’s offensive social media posts and said, “Little fact for you: Anora uses the F-word 479 times.” He also added quickly, “That’s three more than the record set by Karla Sofía Gascón’s publicist.”

"If you haven’t seen Conclave, its logline is: A movie about the Catholic Church, but don’t worry,” he poked fun at Conclave.

Academy Awards 2025

Hollywood's glitziest night of the year is currently under way. It is taking place at the Dolby Theater.

Beginning the show, Conan O'Brien said, "Welcome to the 97th Academy Awards. It's Hollywood's biggest night, that starts at four in the afternoon."

The first prize of this year's evening was for best supporting actor.  Kieran Culkin won the honour for A Real Pain. Flow fetched the Best Animated Film award. Zoe Saldaña became the Best Actress in Supporting Role award for Emilia Pérez. Emilia Pérez won the Best Song award for song El Mal.
