Zoho CEO Sridhar Vembu backs IIT Madras Director Prof. V Kamakoti's claims on the medicinal properties of cow urine or gomutra.

In a post on the social media platform X, Vembu wrote, 

"This nation Bharat has profound wisdom the world is slowly coming to see.

As a civilization, we will holistically invent technology so that human life on this planet is in harmony with nature.

It is profound ignorance masquerading as the "rationalist" outlook that is using patterns of thought already being challenged in the West to attack our deep thinkers here.

We will fight this fight."

Zoho CEO's statement comes in response to a post criticising the claims of the IIT Director. The X user wrote,

“This nation will not be destroyed because of illiteracy. But intellectuals who are behaving worse than illiterates.”

What does the IIT Director say about Gomutra?

IIT Madras Director V Kamakoti addressed an event at a Go Samrakshana Sala on the day of Maatu Pongal in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, where he described an anecdote from the life of a sanyasi. The ascetic consumed ‘Gomutra’ when he had a high fever. He was totally cured after having ‘Gomutra’.

He added that Gomiyam (cow urine or gomutra) has “anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and digestive properties.” He claimed that cow urine is beneficial as a medicine for conditions like Irritable Bowel Syndrome and extended his support to recognise it for its “medicinal value.”

IIT Director's remarks gained attention on social media, drawing reactions from several netizens after Congress leader Karti Chidambaram shared a video of IIT Madras Director V Kamakoti on January 18, supporting the 'medicinal value' of ‘Gomutra’, emphasising the need to protect Indigenous cow breeds and adopt organic farming.

While reacting to claims of IIT-Madras director favouring cow urine, Karti Chidambaram said, “Peddling pseudoscience by @iitmadras Director is most unbecoming @IMAIndiaOrg.”
