Tesla could drive into India in the next 2-3 months and has started the process of certification and homologation in India, reported CNBC-TV18. Elon Musk's electric vehicle (EV) giant is unlikely to manufacture in India. Ahead of Tesla's launch in Indian markets, Musk awaits clarity on India's import duty cuts. According to CNBC-TV18, Tesla wants to enter India with lower import duties without immediate manufacturing plans.

Tesla share price has declined by over 30 per cent in the past month and is down 35 per cent on a year-to-date (YTD) basis. The weakness in the EV giant’s stock follows disappointing sales figures and investor concerns that Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Elon Musk’s potential involvement in the Trump administration may be diverting his focus from the company.

In a Fox Business interview on Monday, Musk stated that he was managing his businesses “with great difficulty.” On the technical front, market analysts believe Tesla shares may see short-term volatility amid the recent fall.

Why is Tesla in focus?

Tesla was in focus recently after Elon Musk’s satellite-based internet service Starlink announced a collaboration with India’s top telecom players. Jio Platforms, owned by Reliance Industries, announced on March 12 that it will offer Starlink solutions through its retail outlets and online storefronts.

Jio will also establish a mechanism to support customer service installation and activation. Meanwhile, telecom major Bharti Airtel announced on March 11, 2025, that it had signed an agreement with SpaceX to bring a high-speed satellite internet service, Starlink, to India.

Additionally, Tesla recently introduced a refreshed version of its Model Y. The long-range variant now offers a range of 719 km per charge, up from 688 km. The rear-wheel-drive model has also increased its range from 554 km to 593 km.

Xiaomi SU7, priced at a starting point of 215,900 yuan (approximately 24.90 lakh), undercuts the Tesla Model 3 in China. Xiaomi revealed figures to highlight the SU7's performance capabilities. The top-end Max variant can achieve a top speed of 265 mph, accelerate from 0-100 mph in just 2.78 seconds, and offer a range of up to 810 km on a single charge.
