Hurun Global Rich List: Shanghai overtook Mumbai as the billionaire capital of Asia for the first time, with 92 individuals compared to the 90 billionaires living in Mumbai. According to the Hurun Global Rich List for 2025, India ranks third with 284 billionaires. India's billionaire tally rose slightly over the past year to 284 people with a cumulative wealth of ₹98 lakh crore.
For the first time in 10 years, the US leads the list with 870 billionaires, while China follows with 823 of the world’s wealthiest residents. Data released by Hurun Global Rich List indicates that 175 Indian billionaires increased their wealth while 109 others saw their fortunes dip or stay unchanged.
Indian billionaires' cumulative wealth rose 10 per cent over the past year to an average of ₹34,514 crore. India is home to seven billionaires under 40 from Bengaluru and Mumbai. Two Indian billionaires are just 34 years old.
According to the Hurun Global Rich List for 2025, Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani has reclaimed the title of ‘Richest Person in Asia’ while Gautam Adani added ₹1 lakh crore to his fortune to emerge as the country’s biggest wealth gainer.
While Ambani's net worth stands at ₹8.6 lakh crore, down by ₹1 lakh crore from the last year, Adani reportedly made significant gains with an increase in wealth by 13 per cent, taking his net worth to ₹8.4 lakh crore.
Mukesh Ambani has dropped out of the top 10 wealthiest list. His wealth declined by ₹1 lakh crore from last year due to rising debt levels. Even with the drop in rankings, Ambani still holds a comfortable lead over rival Gautam Adani.
Silicon Valley billionaires dominated the top 10, with American businessmen taking up nine spots on the chart, except French fashion conglomerate LVMH owner Bernard Arnault. Despite trouble with sales growth and Tesla Inc.'s dwindling share price, tech giant Elon Musk has retained the top spot.
