Right to Education Act 2009 includes a no detention policy where no child admitted in a school will be held back in any class or expelled till Class 8

New Delhi: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved scrapping of no detention policy in schools.

Under the Right to Education Act, 2009, no child admitted in a school will be held back in any class or expelled till the completion of elementary education covering Class 1-8.

“There has been a unanimous decision of withdrawing the no detention policy from the Right to Education Act 2009,” MoS (HRD) Mahendra Nath Pandey had said in Agartala on 6 July. He had then said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has decided to transform 20 universities of the country into world class ones and the ministry was working in this direction.
